Well it was recently announced that we were going to have some new Mass Effect 2 DLC to get us all back aboard the Normandy (Maybe now I'll finish those achievements!)
The galaxy's most enigmatic thief Kasumi has enemies everywhere, but only a few could put a face to her name. Not much is known about her, other than Cerberus has contracted her to assist Commander Shepard in the mission to save mankind. In exchange, she requires help with a dangerous heist to infiltrate the vault of a deadly criminal known as Donovan Hook.
Kasumi is master of stealth and eluding her enemies, her unique skills and technical expertise will be a valuable assets to Cerberus and Commander Shepard.
It's been over a year and a half since Mass Effect first entered the spotlight, amazing audiences worldwide. The game was a phenomenom - taking people by storm and bringing them on a 40 hour quest to save mankind and the entire galaxy... yet it still had its shortcomings. Planet exploration was tedious and repetitive having around 3 repeated interiors on each planet, rudimentary items to find, none of which had much significance and after 3 or 4 times became lamented by almost all players of the game.
But BioWare listens to its fans. Casey Hudson wrote to on his blog on the beginings of ME2's production, even from the release of the first,
"the first thing we did in designing Mass Effect 2 was to listen very carefully to what people were saying about how they played the first one – what they loved, what they wanted to see improved, and the countless anecdotes that describe players’ personal experiences with their unique paths through the story."
This gives much hope to the perspective audience of the second game, a developer actually caring about its fans? thats almost unheard of but this just goes to prove it happens.
"We read forum posts, reviews, watched people playing the (original) game on YouTube, and literally noted and categorised every piece of feedback we could find, to help us target an overall evolution of the gameplay to the way people actually experienced it."
This is taken from the Mass Effect 2 Facebook - which has incidentally pushed back the release to Spring 2010, as it previously stated late 2009, no luck their I guess.
The second chapter of the Mass Effect story finds Commander Shepard in the darkest reaches of space, uncovering the mystery behind the disappearance of humans throughout the galaxy. In Mass Effect 2 you'll assemble a team of soldiers and specialists, and launch an all-out assault on the heart of enemy territory. Choose carefully, because your success – or failure – depends on the crew you assemble and their loyalty to you and the mission Prepare yourself for a suicide mission to save mankind. Did you play the original Mass Effect? Keep your Mass Effect save-files, because the decisions you made in the first game will have consequences... New to ME? Don't worry, we'll give you a new character in Mass Effect 2 and bring you up to speed on the story.
At this point not even the people in the game know if shepherd is dead or alive. All shall be answered in E3 though - we hope. The new trailer looks amazing and makes me want the game even more, roll on E3
Many details of Mass Effect 2 were revealed in the following Prelude to E3 video
however many other details have been made public in OXM's June issue. That green guy in the video is called Thane and he is a Drell - It is believed he may join your party later in the game, there is also suspicions that we will be getting a Salarian team member too
- You WILL play as Shepard, but for how long we don't know - There is a new species called the Drell and Thane is a new character who is an assassin and may join your party - Planets - There will be a Krogan planet, and Illium, an Asari planet, that is like Coruscant from SW. Also there is "Omega" with is like an anti-Citadel in that it's huge and it's the bottom of the barrel whereas the Citadel is the height of civilization. Also a Cerebus mothership will act as a location of significance. - Story - The ultimate story is still civilization fending off the Reapers, but this chapter will deal with this Cerebus corporation and it's enigmatic leader. There are human civilizations disapearing and it's up to Shepard to investigate, it's termed as a "suicide mission" which may lead to the details of the teaser. - New vehicle that controls better than the Mako...a "new" control scheme....motion control maybe? - Totally revamped inventory system! - Elevator system revamped where you will get the sense of scope of where you're at and where you're travelling. - NO MORE TEXTURE POP IN! - Secondary races like Volus and Elcor are much more mobile, giving more depth and makes things more interesting. - Choices are more meaningful and there is a real risk that major support characters (i.e. anyone not Shepard) can and will die. - Also on the story, they're super-hyping the ending, saying that it's much more grand meaningful in ME2. ME1 had one of the most impacting endings ever, how the hell are they gonna pull this off? - More weapons, more species, more/new team members. - returning team members, locations, weapons.
